This is a basic ASL teaching book. Very few pictures and mostly information for people teaching beginners ASL. It does have some interesting features that make it worth a glance.

M4 Sherman (Osprey Modelling Manual, 14)
Published in Paperback by Osprey Pub Co (March, 2001)
Authors: Rodrigo Hernandez Cabos and John Prigent
Average review score:

M4 modeling
This is the newest in a series by Osprey on modeling specific vehicles. The quality of the book and the modeling techniques are outstanding, with color photos of finished models throughout. Unfortunately, there are too many basic errors in labeling and questionable modelling subjects to classify this as a great Sherman reference. A good number of pages are dedicated to Marine Corp Shermans, with many ideas for extra applique armor. Unfortunately, the author uses the M4A3 for all of his examples instead of the diesel powered M4A2 used by the Marine Corp Tank Battalions in the Pacific. A small portion of the book talks about the background and development of the Sherman but most of it is a 'How I did it' style, similar to articles found in FSM. there is a very nice listing in the back of the book on references and after market vendors. There is also a review listing of currently existing kits with the author's opinion of each. In conclusion, this is a nice book of great looking sherman models but I wouldn't use it as my primary Sherman reference.

Nature Walks in Southern New Hampshire: An AMC Nature Walks Book
Published in Paperback by Appalachian Mountain Club Books (August, 1994)
Authors: Julia Older and Steve Sherman
Average review score:

Nature Walks in Southern New Hampshire
As a Trail guide I think it definately needs more description of the trail and put trail names on the maps. It's nice to go by a map once you are on a trail, but these maps leave out a lot of important trail markers and was very hard to follow. Usually on any given trail there are a lot of loops you can take, nothing was specified on these maps. The description on what is on the trail is pretty nice, but using the maps turned out effortless. You need to concentrate more on the trail so people don't get lost.

Stop Procrastinating Do It
Published in Paperback by Pathway Books (December, 1988)
Authors: James R. Sherman and James R. Shermman
Average review score:

Ok, nothing revolutionary
The best thing about this book is that it's short and easy to finish.

Still, if you're a procrastinator, I don't think it will help you a whole lot. The rules are basic, what do you have to do to stop procrastinating? It's easy; you have to make a decision that you are going to do the things that are important for you and do them. That's what this book says for most of the book.

It's good advice, I would have to say, that's exactly the same advice that I would give to someone who wants to stop procrastinating.

On top of this, the author also gives reasons why we procrastinate, which may or may not be useful to you, it was somewhat useful to me, as it tells me that my situation is common enough to have a label. There is also a set of exercises in the book that is better than nothing at all, although a tried and true procrastinator is almost definitely going to avoid doing them.

The biggest deal with this book for me was to let me know that my procrastination problem isn't really bad at all. Some of the stories in this book were frightening, people who lose their lives over procrastination. There must be another word for procrastination, that isn't procrastination, it's much worse.

Winter of the Wolf

GOOD BOOK BUT BAD START!!!
Jack Horne is a loaner. He lives by himself deep in the mountains. Three girls have been taken by the Arapaho. Horne is the only one who has a change of getting them back. Horne was once living with the Arapaho so he knows their customs. The Indians who took the girls are led by Red Hawk, who once was a good friend of Hornes. He looks for several months and the book is about his trying to find them. There is a lot of action and the book will hold your attention. I gave it a three because of the beginning. You are told on the first four pages how the book is going to end. I dislike books that do that. I much rather find out at the end of the book instead of the first. Shame on you Jory Sherman.

Battle Magic

Authors: Martin Harry Greenberg, Larry Segriff, Rosemary Edghill, and Josepha Sherman
Average review score:

this is th worst book. . . . .
THIS BOOK WAS HORRIBLE!!!!!! EVERYTHING EXCPECT BATTLE MAGIC FOR MORONS ISN'T WORTH THE PAPER IT'S PRINTED ON!!

Quiet bad...
Very disapointing..... all except "girl slayer" was terrible, and even girl slayer was weak compared to other books of this genre i have read. But i suppose it is pretty hard to develop a strong fantasy story with only 20 pages to work with...

An anthology of outstanding fantasy
Battle Magic is a superbly produced audiobook anthology of outstanding fantasy with each short story taking up the concept of magic as a weapon of combat between individuals, between armies, and between kingdoms. Each story, drawn from some of the best and most innovative writers in fantasy today, are aptly read by their individual narrators and conjure up worlds of dark enchantments, single champions against overwhelming odds, and powerful wizards locked in deadly conflict. The stories in this superbly produced, highly recommended, nine hour, unabridged, six cassette collection include Warlord; Hell's Bane; The Miracle of Salamis; The Jewel and the Demon; Alaric's Gift; The Fatal Wager; Ten for the Devil; Battle Magic For Morons; A Matter of Honor; Principles of Warfare; and The Strangeness of the Day.

How to Settle Child and Spousal Support with CalSupport for Windows 3 Ed
Published in Paperback by Nolo Press Occidental (09 April, 2001)
Authors: Charles Edward Sherman and Ed Sherman
Average review score:

Unable to install software on Windows 98
Dos based software/old formats etc. Unable to use. Without software the book is virtually useless. I would prefer to have my money back.

Atrocious software!
This is not a book but a piece of software with an accompanying manual. The software is probably the last piece of pure MS-DOS software still being actively marketed.

The user interface is so bad that it is difficult to see through to the underlying support calculation software. However, the software does provide you with an inexpensive alternative to sitting with your CPA or Attorney and paying $200/hr to try various support scenarios on DissoMaster.

But be prepared for an extremely frustrating software experience.

Latest version New and Very Improved
Last year I purchased the DOS version of this program--everyone's right, it was atrocious. However, I just bought the new Windows compatible version and it is outstanding. Very simple to use and I've had direct experience in comparing it with the Dissomaster program that's widely used by courts--and the results are consistently the same. Given that lawyers can charge $100 or more for a Dissomaster run, this program and book are a bargan.

Alfie's Home
Published in Hardcover by Intl Healing Foundation (September, 1993)
Authors: Elizabeth Sherman and Richard A. Cohen
Average review score:

Repulsive
This book is repulsive, misleading, and patently offensive. My heart goes out to gay and lesbian teens who are the unfortunate victims of molestation by a family member and then have their lives further complicated and confused by this kind of trash.

This is CHILD ABUSE!!
The author is using this book to advocate the discredited theory that a person can change their sexual orientation through reparative therapy. Both APA's have denounced this so-called "therapy." There is not a single (much less a body of research) peer-reviewed article that proves that such therapy really does what it claims.

Cohen, and his modern-day snake-oil salesmen, consistently refuse to subject their "theraputic methods" to scientific review and standards. Even those that have claimed to have been "cured" admit to having sexual feelings toward the same-sex (eg: John Paulik, etc.). That does not sound like a "cure" to me!

This book, based on unethical and immoral practices, should never reach the hands of children. As a parent, I will make sure my son never sees this book!

Hopeful and helpful
This is a wonderful and rare book that offers encouragement and hope to young boys who may be experiencing unwanted sexual attraction to other boys or men. It is also helpful for any boy who may have been molested. I have been a teacher for 35 yrs and also do private counseling. This is the only book on this subject that I am aware of to date that doesnt tell a child that he must be gay and just has to accept it.

A Short History of Western Civilization

Wrong Book Reviewed
Dear Amazon.Com,
I wrote the one star book review for this book which is currently on file. The review is incorrect and should be deleted or modified. I ordered "A Short History of Western Civilization (paperback), but received "A Short History History of Western Civilization since 1600 (paperback)". I wrote the review and then discovered that I had the wrong book. I have returned the book for a refund and reordered the hardback book of the same title. You might want to note that the paperback version is a Study Guide and not a History Book. If you wish you can move the review to the correct book or delete the entry. Thank you

A Study Guide, Not a History
A Short History of Western Civilization (paperback) is a study guide and not a history book. It's great if a study guide, complete with questions, is what you are seeking. The volume was written by Joyce E. Salisbury, not Richard Sullivan as listed in the web site and published in 1994, not 1993. It's Volume Two: since the year 1600, and not a complete guide to the hardback book. The guide is about 128 pages and includes some maps. I give it one star because a study guide is not what I'm seeking.

Excellent work for students and general readers alike
This book traces the history of the western world, from ancient Egypt up to the fall of the Berlin wall.

The book is divided into periods of history, then further subdivided into sections about that period. You can 'dip-in' to a section easily, I find myself picking the book up for a light spot of reading with a cup of tea. I also use this book heavily in my Classics course - so it has a multitude of uses.

Overall, a thorough, unbiased, but easy to read account of western civilization. If you live in the western world, and are wondering where you came from or why things are the way they are, then get this book!
